Final Fantasy XVI Voice Actor Says The Game Helped Him Process The Loss Of His Father During Production

Final Fantasy XVI voice actor Ben Starr, who voices protagonist Clive in the highly anticipated RPG, has revealed that his father died during the production of the game, and that he was able to channel his personal loss into his performance in the game.

This game means a lot to me. My dad died in the making of this video game, and there is a lot of loss that Clive goes through, it’s amazing how much this game allowed me to process that loss and channel that loss into something good and creative. The team were incredibly good at allowing me to be as expressive as I possibly could, so yeah, when you’re hearing some of that stuff, that’s kind of real because of that.

Clive saved my life. Like, this game saved my life. The last time I ever spoke to my dad was on my way to recording this game. He was the guy who first bought me Final Fantasy VIII, he’s the guy who supported me through, you know, the person you look up the most, and that loss was devastating.
